During the holiday season in California, several locations across the state offer drive-thru experiences where visitors can view elaborate light displays from their vehicles. These events provide a way for families and groups to celebrate while remaining in their cars.

In Indio, the Empire Polo Club, known for hosting the Coachella Music & Arts Festival, will present “Magic of Lights” from November 10 to December 31. The event features dozens of LED-light displays such as life-sized dinosaurs, a Monster Truck, a giant Barbie figure, illuminated canopies, and digital animation. Admission starts at $25 per car.

San Jose continues its tradition with the “Christmas in the Park—Drive-Thru Light Show,” running from November 28 to January 1 at History Park. This event showcases creative displays and hundreds of decorated Christmas trees set among historical buildings representing Santa Clara Valley. Admission is $40 per car.

Santa Cruz offers “Sparky’s Holiday Lights Drive-Thru” on weekends from November 28 to December 24 at the local fairgrounds. Visitors can see displays featuring Santa Claus, reindeer, snowmen, lighted tunnels, and large Christmas trees. Admission begins at $20 per car.

In Sacramento’s East Sacramento area known as the Fabulous Forties, streets shimmer with lights throughout December. The neighborhood covers an area between J Street and Folsom Boulevard from 40th through 50th Streets.

Occidental hosts “Christmas in the Redwoods” at Sonoma Zipline Adventures along the Bohemian Corridor from December 4 to December 21. Guests can drive by cottages and redwoods adorned with lights before visiting Union Hotel for hot cocoa and photo opportunities with Santa and Bigfoot.

Oxnard’s annual “Christmas Tree Lane” runs from December 14 to December 26 along F & G Streets. Drivers also pass Plaza Park, home to Ventura County’s tallest Christmas tree.

Los Gatos presents its “Annual Fantasy of Lights Drive-Thru” from mid-December through early January near Vasona Lake in Santa Clara County. More than fifty animated LED-lit displays are set up along a 1.5-mile route accompanied by music via radio broadcast; admission starts at $30 per car.

For those interested in a different format, Irvine’s Tanaka Farms holds the Hikari Festival of Lights from November 28 to December 26. While not a drive-thru experience, guests park their cars before boarding hay-ride-style wagons that travel through illuminated fields to reach walk-through displays and festival activities including petting zoo animals and food vendors.

These events reflect how holiday celebrations have adapted over time in California, providing both traditional and new ways for communities to enjoy seasonal festivities together.
