Camp 4 Wine Cafe, located at the corner of 10th and Needham streets in Modesto, offers a menu that includes wine, beer, paninis, salads, and more. The cafe is owned by Damon Robbins, a Modesto native who named it after Camp 4 in Yosemite National Park—a place where his father, Royal Robbins, and other notable rock climbers trained during the 1960s. The establishment occupies the same building on 10th Street that once housed a Royal Robbins outdoor clothing store.
The cafe operates from 1:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays; it is closed Sundays and Mondays.
A recent visit highlighted both the ambiance and affordability of Camp 4 Wine Cafe. The atmosphere was described as cozy with dim lighting and soft house music playing in the background. Even during early afternoon hours, many tables were occupied or reserved.
Online reviews support the cafe’s reputation for reasonable prices and quality service. One Yelp reviewer wrote: “Great upbeat atmosphere, professional staff members, good menu quality food products and a good price.” Another customer noted being seated immediately without a reservation on a Saturday afternoon.
During the visit, attentive service was provided to families with children—high chairs were brought promptly, and entertainment such as crayons was offered for young guests. The children’s menu features items like cheese plates with apples, almond butter-and-jelly sandwiches, and grilled cheese sandwiches priced between $4 and $6.
Other menu options include salads ($12–$13), paninis ($10–$20), appetizers ($5–$34), as well as drinks ranging from $2 for soda to $14 for wine by the glass.
To stay within a $25 budget limit during this visit, an order was placed for lemonade ($3) and a turkey club sandwich ($19). Each sandwich comes with a choice of house-grilled ciabatta chips or salad sides; ciabatta chips were selected for this meal.
The restaurant’s decor combines industrial elements like exposed pipes with Yosemite-inspired details such as trail signs and vintage climbing photos. Despite high occupancy in the dining room at lunchtime, orders arrived quickly—within ten minutes.
The turkey club panini received positive feedback for its flavor balance while the lemonade was described as refreshing but not overly sweet. The ciabatta chips were compared favorably to oversized croutons.
While Camp 4 Wine Cafe may not be among Modesto’s most budget-friendly restaurants overall due to some higher-priced items (such as cocktails or specialty bowls), there are still affordable choices available across its menus—including kids’ dishes starting at $4.
The total cost for one meal—lemonade plus turkey club panini—came to $27.26 after tax and tip.
