A recent analysis has ranked the coldest Novembers in California since 1895, based on data from the National Centers for Environmental Information. The ranking considered the lowest average temperatures recorded in each November.

The coldest November on record occurred in 1994, with an average temperature of 42.9°F. During that month, statewide high and low temperatures were 52.9°F and 32.9°F respectively, and total precipitation measured 3.73 inches.

Other notably cold Novembers include 1922 (45.8°F), 1916 (45.9°F), and several years tied for fourth place—1931, 1947, 1985, and 2000—all recording an average temperature of 46°F. These months also saw varying amounts of precipitation and temperature ranges across the state.

More recent decades are represented as well; for example, November 1964 had an average temperature of 46.1°F with a monthly high of 55.7°F and a low of 36.6°F.

The ranking provides historical context to California’s climate patterns over more than a century.
