The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has announced a series of public forums to gather input from customers on California American Water Company’s proposed rate increases for water and wastewater services across its districts. The forums will be held both in-person and virtually, allowing customers statewide the opportunity to participate.

The schedule includes in-person meetings on January 6, 2026, in Citrus Heights; January 13, 2026, in Sand City; and January 20, 2026, in Camarillo. Each location will host two sessions at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. A virtual forum is scheduled for January 28, 2026, with participation available by phone or online.

According to the CPUC, these public forums are designed for customers to directly share their perspectives about the proposed rate changes. “Public input helps the CPUC make an informed decision, and the CPUC invites customers to attend to learn more and provide comment,” stated the commission.

California American Water Company is required by regulation to submit a general rate case application every three years so that rates reflect the true cost of providing water services. In its latest application filed on July 1, 2025, the company proposes increasing average residential bills by approximately $20.44 (16.1 percent) per month in Monterey; $22.56 (17.9 percent) per month in Southern California; and $16.73 (22.2 percent) per month in Sacramento.

No official decisions regarding the rate request will be made during these public forums.

Customers who wish to participate can attend any of the scheduled sessions or submit written comments online through the proceeding’s Docket Card on the CPUC website. Additional resources such as fact sheets are also available online for those seeking further information about the proposal.

For individuals needing accommodations such as interpretation services, contact should be made with the CPUC’s Public Advisor’s Office at least five business days before attending a forum.

The CPUC is responsible for regulating utilities within California and ensuring safe and reliable service for consumers throughout the state.
