Driver killed in solo vehicle crash on Sylvan Avenue in Modesto

A driver died early Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Sylvan Avenue, according to the Modesto Police Department. The incident happened shortly before 4 a.m. between McReynolds and Roselle avenues.

Modesto Police spokesperson Sharon Bear confirmed the details of the collision. Officer Troy Cross, who responded to the scene, said, “The vehicle started at the island and ended up at the tree,” where it came to rest. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Sylvan Avenue was closed in both directions while members of the Traffic Safety Unit conducted their investigation. The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s name after notifying family members.

Police indicated that this incident is part of a recent series of fatal collisions in Modesto. Members of the Traffic Unit reported they had been awake for more than 27 hours due to investigating another fatal crash just the night before.
