Union members from the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) in Florida convened in Tallahassee for a five-day legislative conference. The event brought together active members and retirees to meet with state legislators, focusing on issues such as labor rights, wage improvements, and the safeguarding of pensions and Social Security.
During the conference, union leaders highlighted their opposition to legislation that could undermine collective bargaining rights or threaten the financial security of working people. “Leaders and activists emphasize the importance of opposing anti-union legislation that threatens the collective bargaining power and financial stability of the working class,” according to statements from organizers.
Participants met directly with lawmakers to advocate on behalf of machinists throughout Florida, including regions like the Kennedy Space Center, South Florida, and the Panhandle. The council’s main objective was to influence policy decisions affecting union workers’ quality of life while also preparing for political engagement ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
