The Food Fix Truck, a well-known food truck in Modesto, has ended its operations after ten years. Owner Hank Olson announced the closure and sale of the truck, which he referred to as “Rafy,” in a Facebook post. The truck, originally purchased from Rafy’s Taco Truck in Santa Rosa, had gained recognition over the years, including visits from Food Network personalities Alton Brown and Guy Fieri. It was also featured on Fieri’s show “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” in 2016 and was named the top food truck in the country by The Daily Meal in 2017.
Olson explained his decision, stating, “Honestly, it was a good business move, just sitting there. Not doing much. The cost of parking and insurance, what are you going to do? With the restaurant (what I was really going for) and now the bakery, we have overachieved every goal.”
Reflecting on the truck’s early days, Olson wrote, “We didn’t make much, but if we sold tacos, we might have. That’s what everyone asked for when they walked up. They had never seen a food truck in this area that didn’t sell tacos. A lot of disappointment on both ends. The ones that walked away really wanted tacos. The ones that had sandwiches still sit at my bar every day.”
Although the food truck has closed, Olson’s downtown Modesto restaurant will continue to operate. He invited customers to celebrate its six-year anniversary, saying, “Please come in this Saturday for our six-year restaurant anniversary. We just hung the Food Fix Truck door, grill and license plates on the wall and we are working on the original menu for nostalgia.” The celebration will take place at 938 11th St. from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., featuring a special barbecue menu, live music, raffle prizes, and beer specials.
