A Modesto man was arrested after allegedly attempting to burglarize the Best Buy store on Sisk Road, according to local authorities. The incident occurred earlier this week when employees reported hearing what sounded like footsteps coming from the store’s roof.
Modesto Police Department spokesperson Sharon Bear said officers responded to the scene and requested assistance from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Air Support Unit. The sheriff’s helicopter, AIR101, conducted a flyover and located a man sitting on top of the building. According to video released by the Sheriff’s Office, air crew members observed as the individual later climbed down from the roof and fled into a nearby neighborhood.
Coordinated efforts between AIR101, Modesto police patrol officers, and the department’s Organized Retail Operations Team led to a swift apprehension of the suspect.
Police identified the man as Oscar Llanos, 40, of Modesto. He was taken into custody and booked on suspicion of attempted burglary as well as multiple probation violations.
Detectives discovered burglary tools on the roof where Llanos had been spotted. Authorities have not released information regarding any potential damage to the store or whether additional suspects may have been involved in the incident.
