IAM Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen and other union leaders recently visited Alaska Airlines Cargo to meet with International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) members. During the visit, they spoke with mechanics from both Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines in Seattle and Hawaii.

A major topic of discussion was the upcoming representation election between IAM and the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA). This election follows the ongoing merger between Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines. Johnsen addressed concerns raised by members about which union would represent them after the merger.

In response to these questions, Johnsen issued a public challenge to AMFA for a debate on key issues facing aircraft maintenance technicians. He stated his readiness to participate in such a debate at any time or place. “I am willing to meet at any time, any where to discuss issues at stake for the workforce,” said Johnsen.

The IAM has shared video highlights of this visit.
