A group of representatives from the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), led by Midwest Territory General Vice President Sam Cicinelli and Chief of Staff Vinny Addeo, visited the Quaker Oats facility in Cedar Rapids. The delegation was welcomed by the Local 831 (District 6) Shop Committee for a tour focused on the facility’s production systems and the role of IAM members in maintaining operational standards.
The Cedar Rapids site is recognized as the world’s largest cereal mill, producing Cap’n Crunch cereals among other products.
“This tour offered an invaluable perspective on the commitment and skill our members bring to their work every day,” said Cicinelli. “Seeing the scale of operations and hearing directly from rank-and-file members strengthens our resolve to continuously advocate for fair wages, safe working conditions, and a seat at the table in shaping the future of labor at Quaker Oats.”
During discussions with workers, IAM representatives addressed issues such as workplace safety protocols, training opportunities, and economic concerns. These topics are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen union representation within major employers like Quaker Oats.
Employees also shared feedback about challenges faced at the facility and potential areas for improvement. The conversations highlighted union solidarity ahead of upcoming contract negotiations. IAM leaders noted that collaboration with other unions present at the plant—including SMART and BCTGM—contributes to greater unity among workers.
