The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM Union), which represents 600 members, has announced its opposition to the nominations of Crystal Carey for General Counsel of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and Scott Mayer and James Murphy for NLRB Members. The union is calling on the U.S. Senate to delay any action on these nominations until NLRB Member Gwynne Wilcox is reinstated.
Wilcox was removed from her position by President Donald Trump, a move the IAM Union describes as unjust. In a letter to members of the U.S. Senate, IAM Union International President Brian Bryant stated, “As I’ve stated before, the IAM urges President Donald Trump to reverse the unprecedented and illegal firing of NLRB Member Wilcox, restore the Board’s independence, and protect workers’ rights. The NLRB, with Board members from both political parties, is crucial to the rights of our nation’s private-sector workforce, and without this balance, enforcement of the National Labor Relations Act cannot occur in a fair or impartial way.”
Wilcox had been reconfirmed by the Senate in September 2023 with bipartisan support for a term that was set to end on August 27, 2028. The IAM Union emphasizes that having board members from both political parties is necessary to maintain fair and impartial enforcement of labor laws.
