A man from Las Vegas has been arrested in connection with a double homicide that took place in Merced County in 2022, according to the Merced County Sheriff’s Office. The arrest occurred on Monday, following cooperation between detectives from the Sheriff’s Office Investigations Bureau and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

The suspect, identified as Justin Vanrassan, age 30, faces homicide-related charges. “This arrest marks the culmination of a three-year investigation and brings long-awaited progress and closure to the victim’s family,” the Sheriff’s Office stated in a Facebook post.

The shooting happened near Franklin Road and Santa Fe Drive in the Beachwood area of Merced County, just outside Atwater, during July 2022. The victims were Ruben Coronado, 23, of Lathrop and Eli Correa, 24, of Modesto. According to earlier reporting by the Merced Sun-Star, witnesses said suspects fired several shots from one vehicle at four people in another vehicle late on July 2, 2022.

When deputies arrived at the scene around 11 p.m., they found three victims with gunshot wounds. Coronado and Correa were pronounced dead at the location. A third victim, a woman, survived her injuries.
