A 66-year-old man died following an off-highway vehicle accident on private property near Jamestown late Thursday night, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Sonora Area.

Authorities reported that the crash happened near Pulpit Rock Road. The exact time of the incident was not provided. Investigators stated that the man was operating a Yamaha off-highway vehicle when, for reasons still unknown, it went down an embankment. He was ejected from the vehicle, which then landed on top of him and caused life-threatening injuries.

CHP indicated that alcohol may have contributed to the crash. They also said that the driver was not wearing a safety helmet at the time of the incident.

The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin by the Tuolumne County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
