One person was arrested on suspicion of assault at the No Kings protest in Modesto on Saturday, according to the Modesto Police Department.
Police said the incident happened near McHenry and Briggsmore avenues after a protester reported being pushed by a counterprotester. The department stated that its Real-Time Crime Center helped identify the suspect, who was later found away from the protest area and taken into custody without incident. The individual received a citation for misdemeanor assault.
Officers at the event also spoke with several demonstrators about a city ordinance that regulates protest activities. The ordinance includes a prohibition on wearing masks during public assemblies.
“Throughout the event, officers worked to ensure public safety and maintain open lines of communication with organizers and participants,” the department said in a statement.
In total, police issued one misdemeanor citation for assault and 15 traffic citations during this protest. This is fewer than at the June No Kings protest, where police made five arrests for wearing a mask, one arrest for obstructing officers, as well as issuing 18 traffic tickets and a noise citation.
