A Modesto youth soccer coach was arrested on September 25 for alleged possession or control of child pornography, according to the Modesto Police Department. The arrest followed tips received by the department’s high-tech crimes unit through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which indicated that the suspect had uploaded child pornography.

Efrain Aguayo Jr., 32, was taken into custody at his home in Modesto. Detectives seized multiple electronic devices from the residence for forensic analysis.

Police said that the soccer team coached by Aguayo has been notified about his arrest. Authorities also stated there is no evidence suggesting children from the program were involved. The investigation remains ongoing.

Aguayo is listed as a coach on the Ajax 2023-24 roster.

This incident follows another recent case involving an Ajax youth soccer coach. In July, Matthew Paez was arrested on suspicion of possessing and distributing child pornography. According to previous coverage by The Bee, “investigators had already uncovered more than 100 explicit videos involving children, with many more potentially still under review,” as of July 29. Paez is scheduled to appear in court on October 2 for an early case management conference.

The Modesto Police Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding Aguayo’s arrest.
