A 72-year-old man from Modesto died after his motorcycle was struck by a pickup truck at an intersection near Riverbank High School on Sunday afternoon, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office.

The collision occurred at about 3:25 p.m. at the intersection of Patterson Road and Snedigar Road. Sgt. Michael Carranza stated that Gary Stevenson, identified by the Coroner’s Office, had stopped his Harley-Davidson motorcycle at a stop sign on Snedigar Road before entering the intersection.

As Stevenson proceeded forward, he was hit by a Ford F-150 traveling westbound on Patterson Road. Emergency responders, including fire crews and AMR medics, attempted CPR at the scene.

Stevenson succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the pickup remained at the location and cooperated with law enforcement during their investigation.

Carranza noted that drugs and alcohol do not appear to be involved in the crash, although toxicology results are still pending. Authorities are continuing to investigate other possible contributing factors such as speed and visibility.

The Sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Team closed a portion of Patterson Road for approximately four hours—from around 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.—to document evidence and take measurements.

The investigation is ongoing.
