In October, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) will automatically apply the California Climate Credit to the electric bills of millions of residential and eligible small business customers. The credit, set at $58.23 for residential electric accounts, matches the amount distributed in spring.
Customers do not need to take any action to receive this credit. The biannual electric credit was first delivered in April. Additionally, an annual natural gas credit of $67.03 is provided to residential customers with a natural gas account. This brings total bill credits for residential customers who receive both gas and electric service from PG&E in 2025 to $183.49.
Eligible small business customers will also receive the same $58.23 electric credit in October, following a similar distribution earlier this year, totaling $116.46 in annual credits.
The California Climate Credit is part of the state’s Cap-and-Trade Program overseen by the California Air Resources Board and is distributed by PG&E as directed by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). The program aims to reduce carbon emissions across California.
“This credit helps ease energy costs for our customers and reinforces our commitment to a more sustainable and climate-resilient energy future,” said Vincent Davis, Senior Vice President, Customer Experience.
Since 2014, PG&E’s residential and small business customers have received an average of $1,000 each through these credits on their utility bills, amounting to more than $12.9 billion in benefits statewide under the Cap-and-Trade Program.
PG&E provides several resources for customers seeking additional ways to save on energy costs or manage their monthly bills. These include signing up for a free personal energy coach through the HomeIntel program, enrolling in Budget Billing, or using online tools such as Rate Comparison or Savings Finder via their PG&E account portal.
Customers are encouraged to check that they are on the lowest-cost rate plan available for their home or business using these online tools.
