Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has announced the extension of its Match My Payment Program, which offers bill assistance to customers facing financial difficulties. The program, originally set to end on December 31, 2025, will now continue into 2026 while funding remains available.
The Match My Payment Program provides a dollar-for-dollar match up to $1,000 for eligible low- to moderate-income customers who pay toward past-due energy bills. This initiative aims to help prevent service disconnections for those struggling with outstanding balances.
Since its launch in June with a $50 million commitment, the program—alongside PG&E’s Relief for Energy Assistance through Community Help (REACH)—has delivered nearly $22 million in aid to over 60,000 customers this year. REACH offers an additional bill credit of up to $300 for income-qualified households facing a disconnection notice.
“We know how challenging it can be for families to keep up with bills in so many aspects of daily life, and we’re focused on delivering meaningful support,” said Vincent Davis, PG&E Senior Vice President, Customer Experience. “This extension is about giving more customers the help they need so they can keep their home comfortable and safe.”
Fresno, Kern, and San Joaquin counties have seen the highest number of approved applications and funding from these programs. Together, residents in these areas have received more than $9.4 million in support.
To qualify for the Match My Payment Program, applicants must meet federal income guidelines. For instance, a family of four earning less than $128,600 per year may be eligible—a threshold that is double the limit set by the REACH program. Recipients can receive multiple matches throughout the year if they pay at least $50 toward a past-due balance of $100 or more.
Customers who have already received a $300 REACH grant are automatically pre-qualified for up to an additional $1,000 through Match My Payment. This means eligible households could receive up to $1,300 in combined relief as long as funds last.
Funding is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. PG&E partners with Dollar Energy Fund (DEF), a nonprofit organization that processes applications for these assistance programs.
PG&E also offers other programs designed to help income-eligible customers manage their energy costs. Among them is Medical Baseline—a discount program supporting those who rely on power for medical needs—and additional tools like Savings Finder are available at pge.com/billhelp.
PG&E serves over sixteen million people across Northern and Central California as part of its utility operations spanning approximately 70,000 square miles. More information about PG&E’s services can be found at pge.com and pge.com/news.
