As the holiday season approaches, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) is encouraging customers to adopt energy-saving practices to manage higher energy usage typically seen during this time of year. The company notes that household lighting accounts for about 10% of energy use, while kitchen appliances make up 31%, according to data from the California Energy Commission. Increased use of decorative lights, home heating, and cooking during the holidays can lead to higher winter bills.

David Poster, PG&E Director of Building Electrification and Energy Efficiency, stated, “The holidays are all about connection and comfort. Customers can celebrate while keeping energy costs down by adding a few simple steps into their holiday routine.”

PG&E suggests several ways for customers to reduce their energy consumption. One idea is to assemble an Energy Efficiency DIY Toolkit with materials that help save on utility costs throughout the year. The company also provides a video offering additional strategies for savings.

To help manage bills, PG&E recommends that customers review their current rate plans using the Rate Comparison tool available through their online accounts. This feature allows users to ensure they are on the most cost-effective plan for their household or business needs.

For those concerned about seasonal bill fluctuations, PG&E offers Budget Billing, which averages energy costs over the past year to create predictable monthly payments.

Customers facing difficulty paying their bills may qualify for financial assistance programs provided by PG&E. More information on eligibility is available at pge.com/billhelp.

Pacific Gas and Electric Company serves more than sixteen million people across Northern and Central California as a subsidiary of PG&E Corporation. Further details can be found at https://www.pge.com/ and https://www.pge.com/news.
