Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) is preparing for a major winter storm expected to hit Northern and Central California starting Monday, February 16, 2026. The company is mobilizing crews and pre-positioning equipment to address potential damage to electric infrastructure and power outages caused by the forecasted severe weather.

PG&E meteorologists predict the storm will bring strong winds of up to 60 mph, heavy rainfall, and snow levels dropping as low as 2,000 feet—an unusual occurrence this season. Significant snowfall is expected above 3,000 feet from Monday night into Tuesday. The storm is anticipated to arrive early Monday morning and weaken by Wednesday evening. Unlike typical storms, this event will move through in several phases with multiple systems, which may increase risks from wind, rain, and snow.

“In addition to our customer outreach and engagement, as part of our preparation and resource planning ahead of storms or other seasonal weather events, we also prioritize engagement with state and local agency partners to help support a safe, efficient, coordinated response,” said Angie Gibson, PG&E Emergency Preparedness and Response Vice President.

The company is using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning-enhanced weather models that combine real-time atmospheric data with historical outage patterns. This technology helps determine where crews and equipment should be placed before the storm hits in order to speed up restoration efforts when it is safe to work.

“The safety of our hometowns remains our most important responsibility and we are actively monitoring the weather system and analyzing data to align the strategic placement of crews and resources to support a safe and swift response to any storm-related outages,” said Peter Kenny, PG&E Electric Transmission and Distribution Senior Vice President.

PG&E advises customers to stay informed about local weather conditions, prepare for possible outages, and take necessary safety measures—especially in areas at risk for flooding or significant snow accumulation. Outage updates will be available on PGE.com/outages as well as on PG&E Currents.

PG&E serves more than 16 million people across 70,000 square miles in Northern and Central California. More information can be found at pge.com or pge.com/news.
