Ricky’s Tacos has been named the best taco truck in Stanislaus County, according to results from the “best in Stanislaus” series. The business, owned by Ricardo Serrano, received 9,144 out of 14,454 votes in the contest. Tacos Al Cabron was the runner-up with 5,168 votes.
Ricardo Serrano opened Ricky’s Tacos in November 2022 at age 20. He explained his motivation for starting a taco truck rather than a traditional restaurant: “It gave me ‘the best of both worlds’: the ability to connect with people and the chance to start his business without the ‘huge costs of a traditional restaurant.’”
Serrano said he has long wanted to enter the food industry, following his grandparents who sold tacos for over 50 years. He noted that he admired their work ethic and how much people enjoyed their food.
“I love being out in the community, talking to customers face to face and bringing my food directly to different neighborhoods and events,” Serrano said. “Keeping overhead lower means I can focus more on quality and creativity instead of worrying about a massive budget.”
He hopes to open a restaurant in the future but finds operating a taco truck more feasible at this time.
Customers have praised Ricky’s Tacos for its fresh ingredients and flavorful meat. One reader commented during nominations: “His food is always fresh and come from the heart. The meat always has amazing flavor (and the truck) has some of the best asada fries.” Readers also recommended ordering tripas tacos crispy and mentioned that Ricky’s Tacos serves notable aguas frescas.
Ricky’s Tacos operates at 1800 E. Hatch Road in Modesto from Monday through Saturday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
