A Beverly Hills law firm, Setareh Law, is providing vouchers for free or discounted Uber rides to residents of Stanislaus County during New Year’s Eve. The initiative aims to reduce impaired driving incidents during the holiday.

Daniel Setareh, an injury attorney at Setareh Law, explained that the firm is distributing one-way ride vouchers to people in 19 California counties, including Stanislaus. The vouchers are intended for use between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m., when accident rates are highest during New Year’s celebrations.

“We see so many tragic deaths as a result of drunk driving and we figured it’s a good way to give back to the community and promote safety,” Setareh said. “Basically I’m hoping that if we can help one person have a safe ride without getting into an accident, we will have done our job.”

According to data from the California Office of Traffic Safety, Modesto has a high rate of vehicle injuries involving alcohol. In 2023, there were 670 alcohol-related injuries or deaths in Stanislaus County and 224 in Modesto.

Although headquartered in Beverly Hills, Setareh Law also operates an office in downtown Modesto.

“We’ve dealt with many, many tragic fatalities and other catastrophic injuries,” Setareh said.

The voucher program offers $20 off the cost of an Uber trip with the goal of keeping impaired drivers off the road. To participate, eligible riders must complete an application form and enter their voucher code into the Uber app. The offer applies to trips starting or ending in Stanislaus County or other participating counties from 5 p.m., December 31 through 10 a.m., January 1.

Participants must be at least 21 years old and have an active Uber account. The offer is available while supplies last.

“New Year’s Eve is a time for celebration without tragedy,” Setareh said. “We represent families whose lives have been permanently changed by impaired driving crashes and we want to do our best to help prevent those accidents before they happen.”
