On Tuesday evening, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad responded to a report of a suspicious device found in north Modesto. According to Modesto Police Department spokesperson Sharon Bear, the incident occurred around 8:25 p.m. in the 2600 block of Keller Avenue, where a resident cleaning out a property discovered the item.
“Last night, around 8:25 p.m., a resident cleaning out a property in the 2600 block of Keller Avenue discovered a suspicious device,” said Modesto Police Department spokesperson Sharon Bear. “The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad responded to the scene and handled the situation.”
Sgt. Michael Carranza, representing the Sheriff’s Office, stated that the bomb squad was able to recover the device without incident.
“We looked at it and we believed it to be a possibly military-style active grenade and it was taken and collected by our office,” he said.
Authorities have secured the device and plan to test it in a controlled environment to determine its nature and potential risk.
