Stanislaus County officials have announced a two-day closure of Claribel Road at Terminal Avenue near Riverbank as part of ongoing work on the North County Corridor expressway. The closure will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday and continue until 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22.
The temporary closure is necessary for construction at the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad crossing. A detour map and additional information are available on the North County Corridor project website.
During the closure, drivers heading east on Claribel Road past the Crossroads at Riverbank shopping center are advised to turn left onto Roselle Avenue and then right onto Patterson Road to bypass the closed section. Westbound drivers, including those from Oakdale traveling toward Riverbank or Modesto, can take Claus Road south before turning right onto Sylvan Avenue. From there, a right turn onto Oakdale Road will lead motorists back to the Crossroads center. Detour routes will be marked with signs.
The North County Corridor Phase 1 project began earlier this year and covers the area between Oakdale Road and Claus Road. Construction has also led to a yearlong closure of Roselle Avenue at Plainview Road between Claribel and Sylvan Avenue due to an overcrossing being built in that area.
Officials expect traffic delays in the vicinity of construction until completion of the expressway project in 2028. Digital message boards are being used to keep drivers informed about closures, including recent night closures on Claus Road.
The $144 million project is a partnership among Stanislaus County, Modesto, Riverbank, Oakdale, the Stanislaus Council of Governments, and the California Department of Transportation. More details about the planned corridor can be found at https://northcountycorridorphase1.com.
