A Stanislaus County middle school was cited for two major violations during routine health inspections conducted in early December, according to reports from the Department of Environmental Resources. The county conducts two unannounced food safety inspections each year at its permitted food service establishments, which number about 2,400.
Mountain View Middle School, located at 10001 Crows Landing Road in Crows Landing, received four violations on December 3, with two classified as major. Inspectors found uncooked turkey stored on top of ice cream in the walk-in freezer and a black substance accumulating on the back of the ice machine. Additionally, the bathroom handwashing sink had hot water measuring only 71 degrees and the facility did not have sanitizer test strips.
Other establishments were also cited during inspections held between December 1 and December 7. Bamboo Garden in Modesto received ten violations—six of them major—including employees not washing hands after handling raw food and improper storage practices. All violations there were corrected by December 8.
Pop’s Bargain Outlet in Turlock was found to have six violations on December 2, three considered major. These included an unpermitted catering operation inside the facility and expired baby food products. All issues were noted as corrected by December 4.
Taco Bell at Pelandale Avenue in Modesto had three violations on December 5, including missing ceiling tiles exposing areas to attic space and a leak at a sink. One violation remained unresolved during a follow-up inspection on December 19.
Dollar Tree in Hughson was cited for three violations related to maintenance issues such as rust buildup on drinking fountains and grime in refrigeration units.
