Deputies from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office cited two drivers and impounded their vehicles after breaking up an illegal street race in Patterson earlier this week. The incident occurred near Ward Avenue and Sperry Avenue, a location that the sheriff’s office identified as having a history of speed contests on private property.

According to the sheriff’s office, Deputy Garcia responded to reports of possible racing activity in the area. Upon arrival, Garcia observed two vehicles racing side by side at speeds over 90 mph while a large crowd watched. Both drivers were stopped and cited for engaging in a speed contest. They admitted to participating in the race, according to authorities, and their vehicles were seized and impounded.

The sheriff’s office emphasized that unlawful racing is reckless and creates significant risks for both participants and bystanders. The agency reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward such activities and encouraged residents to report any suspected street racing or sideshow events.

“Community cooperation is essential to preventing injuries, property damage, and fatalities linked to these illegal events,” the sheriff’s office said.
