Stanislaus State has been recognized as one of the leading regional universities in the West by the 2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings, released on September 23, 2025. The university earned top 10 placements in four categories: No. 3 (tie) for Top Performers on Social Mobility, No. 6 for Top Public Schools, No. 7 for Best Colleges for Veterans, and No. 9 (tie) among Regional Universities West.

The institution also ranked No. 26 in Best Value Schools, reflecting its commitment to providing affordable education with strong academic programs. As a Hispanic-Serving Institution, Stanislaus State emphasizes transforming lives within the Central Valley community.

President Britt Rios-Ellis commented on the recognition: “This recognition from U.S. News & World Report affirms what we at Stan State already know: that when opportunity meets determination, incredible things happen,” she said. “Being ranked among the top universities for social mobility, public education and support for veterans is a testament to the transformational power of higher education and to the heart our faculty and staff bring every day to inspire and serve students of every background, especially our first-generation scholars. Their success helps meet the professional workforce needs of our region.

“At Stan State, a college degree uplifts families and communities across the Central Valley. It fuels economic vitality and creates opportunity across generations. These rankings highlight our mission in motion: to open doors, to expand access and to ensure every Warrior is equipped to lead, serve and thrive, right here in the heart of the Valley.”

She added: “Being ranked among the top universities for social mobility, public education and support for veterans is a testament to the transformational power of higher education and to the heart our faculty and staff bring every day to inspire and serve students of every background, especially our first-generation scholars.”

U.S. News assessed nearly 1,700 colleges using up to 17 measures such as graduation rates, retention rates, faculty resources per student, social mobility indicators, peer assessments, and affordability metrics.

Stan State’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program was included among the top 300 nationally at No. 294 (tie), while business, computer science, and psychology programs were also recognized.

The university’s focus on supporting veterans includes dedicated resources aimed at helping military-connected students transition into civilian careers successfully. Its efforts toward social mobility are demonstrated by initiatives supporting first-generation students from diverse backgrounds through graduation.

Earlier this year Money.com awarded Stanislaus State a five-star rating for a second consecutive year; Washington Monthly placed it fourth in “Best Bang for the Buck” in the West as well as seventh among master’s universities nationwide; Forbes also listed Stan State among its Top Colleges based on student outcomes and alumni success.
