Trash collection in Modesto will be affected by the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2025. Local businesses and government offices are set to close or operate on limited hours during the holiday.

Garbage collection services in Modesto are managed by Gilton Solid Waste Management and Bertolotti Disposal Service. “Each hauler has an exclusive service area as deemed by the Modesto City Council,” according to information provided on the city’s website.

The city organizes trash pickup schedules based on location, with garbage and organic waste collected weekly. Recyclable materials such as bottles, cans, and cardboard are picked up every other week. The recycling schedule is determined by whether a residence has an even- or odd-numbered address. Residents can find their specific trash pickup days and recycling calendars through resources provided by the city of Modesto.

Local haulers only observe four holidays each year that affect service schedules. In 2025, Thanksgiving is one of those holidays that will result in a delay for trash pickup. “These holidays may cause your service to be delayed by one day during the appropriate week,” according to the city’s website.

If a resident’s regular pickup day falls on Thanksgiving (Thursday), their collection will move to Friday, Nov. 28.

Stanislaus County also notes that contracted waste haulers observe only four holidays annually: “During holiday weeks service will be performed a day behind schedule,” as stated on the county website. Residents with questions about their specific service should contact their garbage company for more details.
