As the holiday season approaches, residents in Stanislaus County may experience changes to their regular garbage collection schedules. Many local businesses and services will have limited hours or closures on certain dates.

Stanislaus County is served by three franchised garbage collection companies: Bertolotti Disposal Service, Gilton Solid Waste Management, and Turlock Scavenger. These companies provide both residential and commercial waste services across different parts of the county. Each operates within a specific franchise area, which determines where they are authorized to collect trash.

In Modesto, solid waste and recycling are managed by Gilton Solid Waste Management and Bertolotti Disposal Service. The city’s website notes, “Each hauler has an exclusive service area as deemed by the Modesto City Council.” Bertolotti also serves Salida, Keyes, Patterson, Ceres, Crows Landing, Grayson, Newman, and Westley. Gilton covers Hughson, Riverbank, Waterford, Oakdale, Knights Ferry, and Valley Home. Turlock Scavenger provides pickup in Turlock as well as Denair, Empire, Hickman, and La Grange.

Residents can confirm their designated trash pickup day by checking the Stanislaus County website.

The county states that contracted waste haulers observe only four holidays each year. In 2025 and 2026, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day both fall on Thursdays. On these weeks, trash pickup will be delayed by one day for all affected areas.

“During holiday weeks service will be performed a day behind schedule,” according to the county’s website. “Please contact your garbage company if you have any questions.”
