A Turlock Irrigation District (TID) employee died earlier this month in an apparent drowning at Don Pedro Reservoir in Tuolumne County, about 45 miles east of Modesto. The incident occurred near Moccasin Point.

Mitchell Rogers, 62, worked for the Don Pedro Recreation Agency. According to the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office, Rogers disappeared in the water on September 14 while swimming to deliver a rope to a boat that was drifting in the reservoir. Deputies responded to the scene at around 11:40 a.m. Witnesses directed deputies to where Rogers was last seen underwater. A dive team later recovered his body.

In a statement, TID said: “Our thoughts and condolences are with the employee’s loved ones and colleagues during this difficult time. The safety and well-being of our employees is our top priority, and we are cooperating fully with the appropriate parties as they review the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.”

The results of an autopsy are pending.
