Police in Turlock have arrested a suspect in connection with a stabbing that took place late Saturday night on the 4200 block of St. George Place. Officers responded to a 911 call shortly after 11:30 p.m. and found a man with serious stab wounds to his face and upper body, according to a press release from the Turlock Police Department.

Emergency personnel from Turlock Fire and American Medical Response treated the victim at the scene before he was taken to a hospital. The victim remains in critical condition.

Authorities identified Cesar Romero-Bermudez, 33, of Modesto, as the suspect. Police said Romero-Bermudez is the ex-boyfriend of one of the car’s passengers and that there is a domestic violence restraining order against him. Investigators determined that while Romero-Bermudez and the victim did not know each other, “the assault was domestic-violence related and not a random act of violence.” Department spokesperson Dominique Sanchez stated that Romero-Bermudez’s former partner was not physically harmed.

The department’s Special Operations Division and crime analyst located a vehicle linked to Romero-Bermudez, leading to his arrest. He was booked into Stanislaus County jail on suspicion of attempted murder.

Detectives are seeking a second individual who may have been involved in the incident. The department has asked anyone with information to contact its tip line at 209-668-5550, ext. 6780, or email tpdtipline@turlock.ca.us. Anonymous tips can also be provided to Stanislaus Area Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636 or 866-602-7463.
