The U.S. Census Bureau has published new statistics detailing patterns of geographic mobility and place of birth across the United States for 2024. The data, derived from the 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates, offer insights into migration trends among the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and movements from abroad.
According to the Census Bureau, “The State-to-State Migration Flows table package contains: State-to-State Migration Flows. This table provides estimates of the number of people moving between the 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico and to the United States from abroad. State of Residence by Place of Birth. This table provides estimates of people currently living in the 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico by place of birth.”
These statistics help policymakers, researchers, and other stakeholders understand population shifts within the country as well as international migration patterns.
