We Donuts has announced plans to open a second location in Modesto at 2043 Tully Road, the site formerly occupied by Baker Boy Donuts. Baker Boy Donuts closed its doors in early October after nearly four decades of operation in the Gregory Gardens shopping center.

The previous owner of Baker Boy Donuts addressed the closure on Instagram, stating, “Due to health issues, the shop was sold and the new owners will close a couple of weeks for remodeling. The new owners are good people. They come in a short notice and took over because of the situation we are in.” A GoFundMe created by a Baker Boy Donuts employee earlier this year indicated that the owner’s girlfriend had been diagnosed with lupus.

Baker Boy Donuts had operated at the Tully Road location for 39 years, according to business records filed with The Modesto Bee in September 1986. We Donuts’ first location is at 2207 Scenic Drive, with records indicating its presence in Modesto since the early 1970s.

In a statement posted on Facebook, We Donuts’ owners said, “We eagerly anticipate sharing even more irresistible donuts, freshly brewed coffee and warm hospitality with you.”
